Blasius Amon : Sacred Works
2024 I Sony Music / Deutsche Harmonia Mundi
CD info
The compositions of Blasius Amon (Hall ca. 1560 - Vienna 1590) present an intriguing ‘balancing act’ between Franco-Flemish style polyphony on the one hand, and Venetian innovations (polyphony, predominance of warm harmonic chords, ‘modern’ tonality instead of church modes) on the other. This balancing act is wonderfully displayed on this world premiere recording, with the beautiful Missa quatuor pro defunctis(Requiem Mass) contrasted with five motets from Amon’s Sacrae cantiones.
The CD booklet contains a password which grants access to a pdf file of the score of the Requiem Mass - Paul Van Nevel’s very own transcription of the Mass.
