Het Huelgas Ensemble, met zijn topzangers uit heel Europa, vergast zijn genodigden op een exclusief concert met een heel bijzonder kerstrepertoire.

Het kerstverhaal, dat rijk is aan plots en personages, is door de eeuwen heen een inspiratiebron voor talloze muzikale composities. Toch is een groot deel van die werken vandaag vrijwel onbekend en is er nog veel onontgonnen repertoire. Alle delen van de ontegensprekelijk populairste passage uit het Nieuwe Testament zijn op muziek gezet: de profetieën over de komst van de Verlosser, zijn geboorte in Bethlehem, de wrede kindermoord van koning Herodes en de finale met de komst van de drie Koningen.

Het repertoire van het programma van het benefietconcert overspant de periode van de 13e tot het begin van de 20e eeuw, van anonieme middeleeuwse werken over componisten van de renaissance zoals Giaches de Wert (1535-1596) en Charles de Courbes (floruit ca. 1600), composities uit de 17e eeuw van Jéronimo Luca (ca. 1630), 19e-eeuwse ‘Chistmas Carols’ tot B. Luard Selby (1853-1918). Kortom, een kerstprogramma dat de rijkdom van ons hele muzikale erfgoed weerspiegelt.

Maestro Paul Van Nevel geeft een intieme kijk in de uitzonderlijke Europese polyfonie. Tijdens de aansluitende receptie kunt u de dirigent en de musici van het wereldvermaarde ensemble ontmoeten. Mis deze kans niet om dit unieke artistieke gebeuren van dichtbij mee te maken, samen met familie, vrienden en business partners.

Het Huelgas Ensemble kan zijn programma niet met eigen middelen realiseren. Subsidiëring door de Vlaamse Overheid en inkomsten door de concertwerking volstaan echter niet om het volledige programma uit te voeren en de professionele werking te bekostigen. Voor de uitvoering van alle geplande concerten, voor het doorgedreven studie- en opzoekingswerk naar onbekend repertoire, en voor het maken van opnames heeft het Huelgas Ensemble heel wat middelen nodig. Daarom rekenen wij op de gulle ondersteuning door de gasten van het benefietconcert. U kan ons daadwerkelijk helpen om onze ambitie op het hoogste niveau en met het grootst mogelijk engagement verder te zetten. Uw bijdrage zorgt ervoor dat we de Vlaamse polyfone muziek van de middeleeuwen en de renaissance wereldwijd kenbaar kunnen maken, dat we intense concert ervaringen kunnen realiseren én dat geraffineerd muzikaal erfgoed blijvend te beleven valt. The Huelgas Ensemble, with its top singers from all over Europe, treats its guests to an exclusive concert with a very special Christmas repertoire.

The Christmas story, rich in plots and characters, has inspired countless musical compositions over the centuries. Yet today, many of those works are virtually unknown and there is still a lot of unexplored repertoire. All parts of the undeniably most popular New Testament passage have been set to music: the prophecies about the Saviour's coming, his birth in Bethlehem, King Herod's cruel infanticide and the finale with the arrival of the three Magi.

The repertoire of the benefit concert programme spans the period from the 13th to the early 20th century, from anonymous medieval works to Renaissance composers such as Giaches de Wert (1535-1596) and Charles de Courbes (floruit c. 1600), 17th-century compositions by Jéronimo Luca (c. 1630), 19th-century ‘Chistmas Carols’ to B. Luard Selby (1853-1918). In short, a Christmas programme that reflects the richness of our entire musical heritage.

The Huelgas Ensemble cannot realise its programme with its own resources. However, subsidies from the Flemish Government and income from concert operations are not enough to perform the full programme and pay for its professional operation. The Huelgas Ensemble needs considerable resources to perform all planned concerts, to study and research unknown repertoire and to make recordings.
