Nous sommes ravis d’annoncer que notre enregistrement CD « Max Reger : Melancholy (Vocal Works) » a reçu le prestigieux prix OPUS KLASSIK de l’Enregistrement Choral de l’Année 2025.

Paul Van Nevel déclare à propos de cet enregistrement novateur : « Le désir insatiable de Max Reger pour un passé perdu, une nostalgie idéalisée ou un Weltschmerz, ainsi que ses textes soigneusement choisis sur la Mortalité et la Nuit comme métaphore de l’incertain, montrent que Reger était un enfant de son temps, ce qui a fait de lui, nolens volens, un ‘homo melancholicus’. »

Paul Van Nevel zegt over deze baanbrekende opname: “Max Regers onverzadigbaar verlangen naar een verloren verleden, een geromantiseerde nostalgie of Weltschmerz, en zijn zorgvuldig gekozen teksten over Sterfelijkheid en de Nacht als metafoor voor het onzekere, tonen aan dat Reger een kind van zijn tijd was, en maakten hem nolens volens tot een ‘homo melancholicus’.”

We are delighted to announce that our CD recording ‘Max Reger : Melancholy (Vocal Works)’ has been awarded the prestigious OPUS KLASSIK Choral Recording of the Year 2025 award.

Paul Van Nevel says of this groundbreaking recording: ‘Max Reger’s insatiable longing for a lost past, a romanticised nostalgia or Weltschmerz, and his carefully selected texts on Mortality and Night as a metaphor for the uncertain, show that Reger was a child of his time, and made him nolens volens a ‘homo melancholicus’.’

Op donderdagavond 4 Oktober werden in Londen de prestigueuze Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2023 uitgereikt.  Het wereldwijd meest gekende en befaamde muziektijdschrift Gramophone geeft elk jaar de Awards uit voor de beste cd-opnames van het jaar in het domein van de “klassieke” muziek. De cd’s worden streng geselecteerd door de gespecialiseerde muziekpers.

Dit jaar waren er honderden inzendingen en slechts 11 cd's kregen een prijs. In de sectie 'Oude muziek’ werd de Gramophone Award 2023 unaniem toegekend aan het Huelgas Ensemble voor de opname van dit jaar verschenen album met twee polyfone missen van Ludwig Daser (ca.1515-1589), een quasi vergeten componist.

Een fragment uit de beoordeling van de jury spreekt boekdelen :

“… This is a rare case where composer and executants have unlocked each other in award-winning fashion. Over decades, Paul Van Nevel has had a remarkable capacity for persuading us that we are not looking hard enough. His Huelgas Ensemble always reminds us that choral polyphony is much more about how we react to an individual musical personality than about the reputation of the figure in question…”

Een delegatie van het Huelgas Ensemble, samen met de directeur van Sony Classical, Michael Brüggemann, hebben temidden een ovatie van het zevenhonderd koppige gespecialiseerde publiek de prijs in ontvangst genomen.

On Thursday evening, the 4th of October, the prestigious Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2023 were presented in London.  The world-renowned music magazine Gramophone issues the awards each year for the best CD recordings of the year in the field of ‘classical’ music. The CDs are rigorously selected by the specialist music press.

This year there were hundreds of entries, and only 11 CDs received an award. In the ‘Early Music’ section, the Gramophone Award 2023 was unanimously awarded to the Huelgas Ensemble for its recording of this year's album of two polyphonic masses by Ludwig Daser (c.1515-1589), a quasi-forgotten composer.

An excerpt from the jury's assessment speaks volumes :

“… This is a rare case where composer and executants have unlocked each other in award-winning fashion. Over decades, Paul Van Nevel has had a remarkable capacity for persuading us that we are not looking hard enough. His Huelgas Ensemble always reminds us that choral polyphony is much more about how we react to an individual musical personality than about the reputation of the figure in question…”

A delegation from the Huelgas Ensemble, along with Sony Classical director Michael Brüggemann, accepted the award amid an ovation from the seven hundred-strong specialised audience.
