CD : Blasius Amon - Sacred Works

WORLD PREMIERE RECORDING
The compositions of Blasius Amon (Hall ca. 1560 - Vienna 1590) present an intriguing ‘balancing act’ between Franco-Flemish style polyphony on the one hand, and Venetian innovations (polyphony, predominance of warm harmonic chords, ‘modern’ tonality instead of church modes) on the other. This balancing act is wonderfully displayed on this world premiere recording, with the beautiful Missa quatuor pro defunctis (Requiem Mass) contrasted with five motets from Amon’s Sacrae cantiones.
